More Energy Brunel is pleased to announce that our member Pam Bagley has won the inaugural vote to be named Most Valued Member of the Quarter!

More Energy Brunel will be naming a different member every quarter – based on nominations put forward by the whole More Energy team. Pam received the most nominations from the gym staff this quarter and is therefore our Most Valued Member! Starting her fitness journey attending Women Only Workouts at ME Brunel, we felt Pam deserved this award due to her consistent attendance in classes and progression with fitness/health goals.

As a reward for her hard work, Pam now gets a free personal training session with a trainer of her choice. Who will it be next quarter? You’ll just have to wait and see!

More Energy Brunel’s PT Lucy Bowgen shares her tips on how to stay healthy this festive season.

We all know the holidays are a time for indulging in delicious foods, relaxing with family and taking a break from daily jobs or studies. How easy is it to stay on track when away from the gym area? Below are some home workouts you can carry out in your home, out and about, in the parks etc.

The circuit below is different lower body exercises that can be carried out to burn calories, tone up and bring that heart rate up!

Circuit 1

  • Jump squats x 15-20 reps
  • Walking lunges x 24 reps
  • Sumo squats x 15-20 reps
  • Jump lunges x 20reps

Repeat circuit 1 as many times within 5 minutes and take a rest.

And now an upper body circuit that can be carried out anywhere to burn calories, tone up and bring that heart rate up!

Circuit 2

  • Push ups/ lay down push ups x 12-15 reps
  • Caterpillar crawl x 5-10 reps
  • Burpees x 10-15 reps
  • Downward dog to low plank x 15 reps

Repeat circuit 2 as many times within 5 minutes and take a rest.

Home workout for Christmas

Below are some ideas of healthy snacks to keep you on track whilst celebrating the holidays!

  • Celery stick and a teaspoon of crunchy no added sugar peanut butter.
  • Rice cakes, butter and half a banana sliced on top.
  • Handful of almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts.
  • Half an apple with crunchy no added sugar peanut butter.
  • Olives
  • Wasabie Peas
  • Wholegrain Oatcakes
  • Popcorn (try to opt for salted)
  • Seeds
  • Half an apple (with little peanut butter)
  • Little pot of hummus with raw vegetables
  • Greek yogurt with sprinkle of nuts and little drizzle of honey
  • Boiled egg/ scrambled eggs made with skimmed milk
  • Wholemeal pitta and hummus
  • Celery, carrot sticks, pepper slices with low fat cream cheese dip.

If you’re going for fruits have them earlier in the day or morning time. Opt for;

  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwi
  • Cherries
  • Cantaloupe melon slices
  • Blackberries or raspberries
  • Strawberries

More Energy raises £440 for BBC Children in NeedMore Energy Kingston Children in Need 2016

The More Energy Group hosted a number of events during November 2016 in aid of Children in Need, successfully raising £592.36 in donations.

The ME Group opened its doors to students, staff and the public at Brunel & Kingston University and Hayes & Uxbridge College, providing a variety of services at a discounted rate; Health MOT’s, 7 day gym passes, free classes and an iTunes Voucher raffle and a cake sale.

The ME Group are proud to support a charity that has helped millions of disabled children and young people in the UK, and will continue to raise awareness for such a great cause.

We are still accepting donations up until the 9th December 2016 at the ME reception desks, so hurry It’s not too late to make that donation.

BBC Children in Need at More Energy

More Energy Brunel is running a week of events for the BBC’s Children in Need charity initiative.

See below for details of how you can help raise money for a great cause:

Week beginning Monday 14th November 2016:

  • Monday 14th: Cake Sale @Sports Centre
  • Tuesday 15th: Cake Sale @Social Kitchen
  • Thursday 17th: 2pm Spin Class followed by 2.45pm HIIT class
  • Weekend 19-20th: Free Health MOTs

Find Pudsey and the ME gang on campus, donate and help raise money for such a great cause. We’ll even give you a free 7 day pass to use at the ME Fitness Centre. More Energy Brunel will also be donating all proceeds made from classes on Friday 18th to the charity. To book a class click here.

The More Energy Team looks forward to welcoming guests to the 2016 Brunel Fireworks and Bonfire Display, on Thursday 3rd November at the Brunel Sports Park.
